In engineering, we often go about our work not knowing how that work touches others’ life and society in general. However, when you come to know about the impact this work has created, it is quite gratifying and thrilling. Even more so, if the work comes full circle and touches your own life. Recently, I had such an experience myself.
I had this ongoing issue with my health lingering over for the last few years. Numerous trips to path-labs and surgeons led me finally to a point where I needed cholangioscopy and Laser Lithotripsy. It is an uncomplicated procedure where a camera and laser fiber is inserted thru the mouth and the operation is performed without any incision. The recovery is fast and the patient can get back to work the next day.
I got this procedure done and besides recovering quickly, I got to keep a DVD as a souvenir. It’s exciting to go where no one has gone before – inside one’s own body. As I reviewed the DVD, I marvelled at nature’s automated systems that works inside, and the sophistication that human technology has reached on the outside.
I noticed the logo on the corner of the video, it was one of our customer companies. It was way too cool that the procedure was done using equipment developed by one of our own customers. It gave me goosebumps to realize that our very smart customers make all kinds of products that do amazing things that touch everyone’s lives.
This episode has not just thrilled the development team at Agnisys, it has also alerted us to the importance of quality of our work. Coming full circle it has given us a deeper appreciation of our role in this huge scientific eco-system.
